What does a United Methodist believe?
United Methodists believe the mission of the church is to make disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. The three simple rules given to us by founder, John Wesley, are: "Do no harm. Do good. Stay in love with God." The United Methodist Church believes in the Holy Trinity, Jesus’ birth, death, and resurrection.
When are your Sunday worship services?
We offer two worship services year-round, at 8:15 and 10:30 a.m. every Sunday morning.
What is your worship like?
Our worship is meant to reach people through singing, hearing God’s Word, offering prayers, and being in community with fellow Christians. Our music is a blend of praise songs and hymns from the United Methodist Hymnal. The singing is accompanied by drums, two keyboards, and piano. The Chancel Choir sings three times a month, and the Bell Choir plays on the third Sunday. The morning message is similar at both services, unless there is a special event. At each service we join in prayer, and have “Life’s Little Lessons” for all of God’s children. At Bethany, we encourage families to worship together so promise to God are being lived out in practice.
We understand that worship is about praising God, and being filled with the power of the Holy Spirit to be disciples for Jesus Christ. We are not perfect, but we can come to worship, receiving God’s forgiveness and salvation through the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
When is Communion served in worship? Can I receive Communion?
Jesus had a last supper with the disciples that was a deeply spiritual experience. Christians regularly share in a remembrance of this meal, and call it "Holy Communion." We offer communion on the first Sunday of every month at both worship services. Anyone who has faith in Jesus Christ is welcome to receive Communion. Children are also welcome to receive Communion at the discretion of their parents. We use grape juice, and offer gluten free wafers in addition to bread.
What if I want to get a child baptized?
Baptism is the recognition of God’s grace and love for all children of God. At Bethany we celebrate the baptism of children and adults. A child being baptized receives a prayer shawl, Bible, baptismal napkin, and certificate.
We ask that you speak to one of the pastors to arrange a time to meet to discuss your intentions for a baptism. They will have conversation with you about the promises you will make as a parent in front of God, family, and the Bethany congregation. The promises you make to raise your child in a Christian home, with Biblical teaching, and in relationship to the Church are not to be taken lightly.
How do I become a member?
Bethany encourages people of any religion, and ethnic background to attend worship and get to know the ministries of Bethany. If you would like to become a member, we first ask that you attend worship for a for a while, so you get a sense of our worship, ministry, and vision at Bethany. We want to share in your faith journey, so we can get to know you, as you get to know us. Then, you are welcome at anytime to speak to one of the pastors, letting them know your desire to become a member. They will share with you the steps needed to become a member.
Can we get married at Bethany?
If you would like to get married at Bethany, we ask that you become actively involved in the life of the church. We ask that you get to know the vision and ministry of the Church as well as the pastors. Before a wedding is scheduled, one of the pastors will meet with you to answer any questions about Bethany’s ministry, and how Bethany will connect with you in your marriage.
